About Amos De Roover
DJ Amos has achieved his status as one of the Country’s most well known and respected Latin DJ’s through hard work, guts and a strong desire to succeed. He has worked as a DJ and promoter for over 20 years and has played an integral part in the music industry here in the UK. He was born in India with family roots in Portugal, Spain, Panama and Mauritius and Saudi Arabia. His passion is with the melodious tunes and social commentary found within the Latin music that is indigenous to Latin America, Cuba and Africa and his story proves that determination really does pay off. He studied the art of Salsa from being a mere beginner to now being the owner and manager of The Latin Crew a highly successful dance organisation that is based in the North West of England.
DJ Amos’ resume lists his achievements in working with some of the greats in the music industry from Peter Hook and assisting in the launch of albums by Finlay Quay to working with Mr Scruff and Mark Rae. Most recently he has worked with Lemar, The Big Mojito and Roberto Pla.
The Latin Crew and DJ Amos work nationally and internationally. The list is almost infinite, from his work on KISS FM in the Czech Republic, to La Chic in Spain, to hosting special events at The Strip Club in Portugal. Closer to home he has worked for The Hacienda in Manchester, being involved in the big 15 th Birthday celebration of the establishment and also Dry Bar management between 1994 and 1997. His work on Community Radio in Manchester brought him great acclaim and he went on to DJ at one of the biggest events in the Salsa calendar, the Pontin’s salsa weekenders. He did this not only once but was sought after to repeat the experience a total of five times!! Following this success he hosted the UK Salsa Congress Dance competition, once again heralding rave reviews. All this hard work certainly paid off and in 2001 he was approached to work in television, the producers of popular weekly soap opera Hollyoaks needed a choreographer for dance scenes in the show and then also star in episodes of this series.
Not forgetting his Latin roots DJ Amos also continues to teach his classes in the Manchester area and he also works closely with other Salsa Dance Companies such as Latin Motion in Birmingham. Fuego Latino and Latin Xces in Leeds, keeping the flame of Latin Dance well and truly burning!!
DJ Amos works tirelessly to spread the word of dance and share his talent with those who are willing to learn. His classes are known for being fun, hot, energetic and have contributed to hundreds of people fulfilling their new year resolutions, however late they start working on them, of getting fit and staying fit.
Not only is DJ Amos an enthusiastic and exceptionally skilled dance teacher he also has an unlimited and possibly unrivalled knowledge of the music that powers the dance. He has studied the background and the origins of the dance and music and this has provided him with a knowledge that is unique within the Salsa scene. The music he plays is almost hallucinogenic maybe even addictive, no one is capable of sitting through one of his sets without some part of their body responding to the sounds he plays.
The year of 2008 brings two new experiences for The Latin Crew when they take over the Walkabout Bar – Manchester on Thursday and Friday evenings, the whole event is a culmination of meticulous planning to provide the city of Manchester with its most explosive fusion of Latin House music, with up to the minute dance tracks. Not only is the music going to be hot, so is the clientele. With live shows, podium dancers and the hottest guest teachers dropping by to lend a hand Walkabout will be bursting at its seams. Alongside this is the Fire melting the Ice as The Latin Crew teach hot latin moves at The Chill Factore. Dance Salsa, the hottest of the Latin dances, whilst snowboarders pass by on the snowy slopes.
The Latin Crew go from strength to strength. Each year the team select one charity to raise money for, last year it was Cancer Research and in one event alone the team managed to raise £2000 to help this worthwhile cause. This year the charity has yet to be named but rest assured whoever recipient is they can be safe in the knowledge that DJ Amos and The Latin Crew will go that extra mile in order to raise the funds – the saying is “to go the whole nine yards” well DJ Amos and his team, they go much, much further more like nine hundred yards!!
